Quick one, I think your handwriting is finer when you calm down to write. But me, I rush it and my colleague almost always returns the sticky note and I have to type the text.

We’re still very much in the new year mood so let’s talk about setting goals, adopting rules, habits and that “new year, new me” type of thing.

Entering into a new year, especially one that comes after 2020 will be filled with expectations and vibes to crush any mountain, but like other years it might not last the first quarter of the year.

I think it’s a normal human phenomenon, not keeping to rules or plans. For example we have African time, we have campaign promises not being kept, Dad not returning home with the ice cream he promised young Shade (Shade, I had to use your name).

But trust me resolution works, It did clearly for me in 2019, I’d wrote these things down, prayed about each and every one of them and pasted it on my wall. I was a serving corper at the time and what I didn’t achieve was the monthly 5k I wanted to save from my alawee, in fact, I left NYSC broke than I came in. Also I had plans to apply for a TEDx licence and host one, but I ended up volunteering for one, which was a great experience.

So Resolutions work. But you see that TEDx ambition I’ve been carrying it over since 2019, this year it made the list again. Hopefully, it will port this year.

So, how do you keep to resolutions? I’d advice don’t call them resolutions, it looks like that name has been jinxed by some forces we don’t know. Goals, Outputs, an acronym or something more relatable might help. A name came to mind, the big shark.

Have it in a visible place, I saw mine throughout 2019, actually I still have it in a file, I’m sure. It was just so everywhere and it kept me in shape. I remember having it glued with toothpaste on my wall, later I got shy with everyone seeing it, then I removed it, kept it under my bed, somehow, somehow I always saw it.

If you’re seeing the list 3 months after, you most likely would have forgotten you had something to catch up and the opportunity might have presented itself to you one way or the other.

Don’t underestimate an accountability partner. If you find one, share. If you don’t, honestly don’t kill yourself because I know finding an accountability partner might be a part of your “Big shark” and it’s fine.

Also, get busy, it helps. Let consistency drive you.

As you might have noticed, I haven’t been giving much reference to last year goals, not because it wasn’t great, it really was a great year. But mehn, I can’t even remember the goals I set for that year. I’ve been too engrossed with my career to follow up on anything else. This year, I hope to adjust a little.

I don’t think there should be too much rules to keep a rule, your big shark or whatever acronym you give to it. Just take it easy on yourself, keep your mind open and do the work that follows.

Also, pray over them, yes you’ve heard it again and again, but trust me, prayer works and God hears.

This year, I’ve jotted somfins down, hoping to adjust some patterns and not be all about this career.

So what are you changing this year?
