People will always try

A solid advice I received from my wife. Part 1

We were dating at this point, and she finally got to wear a gown after a long while. She flooded me with pictures, but the only thing I thought to myself was, “Damn, this babe is my cup of tea.”

I had asked the electrician to fix an issue with our prepaid meter. Immediately he came around, he was done in about 10 minutes. He said it was a wire that was lagging and he’s fixed it.

While I’m not one to belittle people’s skills, I was surprised when he insisted on 2k when I gave him 1k. Not that he wasn’t worth that, but we both knew he wasn’t being fair.

When I got in, my wife’s session started. “Shola, don’t you know people will always try? Why are you angry about his insistence to collect 2k?”

A very simple statement that poked me. People will always take shots at you, they will want you to do their bidding even if somewhere in their minds they know it’s not a reasonable request. They will always try!

You see that thought of hers coincided with a resolution I had made days before. A resolution to be insistent on what I want, not to be forced into accepting stuff when it isn’t what I clearly requested for in the first place.

It is clear that everyone is an opportunist, and there’s always something somebody wants from someone. The responsibility is entirely on you to know who you’re falling for.

Anyway, he later left with the 1k.

It’s just a few days until our first-year wedding anniversary, and I thought it would be nice to do a countdown with some of the priceless advice I’ve received from my wife. Enjoy!
